Nightingale Montessori
The Wing class at Nightingale Montessori is a home-base environment for the ninth through twelfth grade students. Many students venture throughout the day to other classrooms as well as to Clark-State College and Wittenberg University for Post-Secondary coursework and/or other electives. Other students arrange for out-of-school internships where they can explore their passions and develop new interests. One of the goals for Wing students is that they would learn to honor and respect each other in new ways each day.
Our class is an inclusion environment where students on many spectra are welcome and invaluable in crafting a unique environment and culture. In some sense the Wing staff hopes to become a background part of your student’s day as they delve into the world. In addition to classes at Nightingale, Wing students are encouraged to try out several elective classes through online sources such as Aventa K12 (aventalearning.com).
Our High School program was designed several years ago when some of our Falcon students, feeling frustrated with the restrictions imposed by the traditional structure oh public high school, asked to extend their individualized program of study through their high school years.
Post Secondary Option
Once students are in the eleventh and twelfth grades, they can choose to participate full time in the Post Secondary Option Program or to divide their time between the college program and Nightingale Montessori.
Many Nightingale Montessori students entering high school have thus already accumulated more than the required number of credits. These students have the option of participating in the State of Ohio Post Secondary Option Program. This program allows students to take college credits and receive both high school and college credit for the course. When students participate in this college program using Nightingale Montessori as sponsor, the additional flexibility enables them to accumulate credits faster and makes it easier for them to accommodate the demands of both schedules. The program is attractive both to the universities to which the students apply upon graduating, as well as to the students who can prove to themselves their ability to achieve academic success at an institution of higher learning.
